Is it possible to tow with a Lexus hybrid vehicle?
December 16 2020, Lexus Laval
When the first hybrids first came on the market, they did not really, or very rarely, allow for towing operations. Things are slowly evolving, so many hybrid products are now capable of towing loads. And the situation will only get better over the years as the technology evolves.
But what about the current situation? Take the Lexus lineup, for example, which relies on a number of models featuring a combination of gasoline and electric engines. Well, if you take a look around, you'll see two hybrid models that offer distinct capabilities. Let's take a look at them together.
NX 300h
The NX has been with us since 2015, both in regular and hybrid variant. The latter takes the name 300 h and is capable of towing loads of 680 kg, or 1,500 pounds. In concrete terms, this translates into the possibility of towing a platform with a motorcycle, a small tent-trailer, a personal watercraft, a rowboat, etc.
RX 450h
If your towing needs are greater, but you still want a hybrid solution, you can turn to the RX 450 h. The latter offers a capacity of 1585 kg, which translates into 3,500 pounds. So, we're talking about small boats, snowmobiles, small trailers, etc. It will certainly meet your needs.
As you can see, unless you have very large loads to tow, it is possible to combine hybridity with towing operations.
