New Lexus RX 450 h+ Hybrid at a Glance
September 15 2022,
The Lexus RX has been a star performer at Lexus for as long as we can remember. The model that debuted in the late 1990s has established itself as the benchmark in the compact luxury SUV segment and has continued to be refined over the years.
Recently, Lexus introduced the fifth generation of the model and there's a lot of interesting stuff to look forward to. That includes the new RX 450 h+ variant, a plug-in hybrid version that adds an attractive element to the model, namely electric range.
Let's take a look at what the 2023 Lexus RX 450 h+ has to offer.
One of four
The RX 450h+ is one of four versions of the model, in addition to the RX 350, RX 350h and RX 500h.
What makes the 450 model special is obviously the electric range offered. Like the smaller NX model, the RX 450h+ is powered by Toyota's 2.5-liter 4-cylinder engine and an 18.1 kWh battery. This will allow it to get something around 50 km all electric. Data is forthcoming, but it's around 60 with the smaller and lighter NX.
All-wheel drive
As for the drive configuration, the electric motors and gasoline engine are responsible for sending power to the front wheels. To provide all-wheel drive, a 40 kW motor takes care of the rear axle to give life to the system that Toyota calls "E-Four".
The result is a permanent and highly efficient all-wheel drive system.
A safe bet
As for the rest, the RX continues to refine itself and becomes a more complete SUV than ever. As we've seen, this RX 450h+ model is just one of many options in the family. If fuel economy is important to you and you want to drive electric, but still have the chance to rely on a gas engine when needed, this 450h+ variant offers the best of both worlds.
