The Lexus UX 2022: the perfect SUV for the city
August 25 2021,
SUVs have been popular in the industry for the past few years, that's for sure. They're everywhere and there's really something for everyone. In the eyes of some people, they get a bad rap because when they think of an SUV, they think of big, greedy monsters that are impossible to maneuver in tight spaces.
In some cases, this is undeniably true. Some models are indeed designed for large spaces, like the GX and LX within the Lexus family. However, we shouldn't generalize and the UX is a good example. The UX is only slightly more massive than a small car, but it offers all the advantages of a utility vehicle, but also those of a car.
See what makes it so perfect for city driving.
A very affordable Lexus
The first thing that's appealing about the UX is its price. The base UX 200, in front-wheel drive mode, starts at $38,450. Then, for those who want all-wheel drive combined with the hybrid approach, the extra cost is only $1,800 for a total of $40,250.
Who says you can't get all the luxury you want at a good price?
Fuel economy
What's even better is that the UX offers really good fuel economy ratings. For the gas variant, the averages are 8 L/100 km in the city and 6.3 L/100 km on the highway with the 2.0L 4-cylinder engine (169 horsepower and 151 lb-ft of torque). When you switch to the hybrid model, you make incredible gains in the city where the rating drops to 5.7 L/100 km. It remains relatively stable on the highway at 6.2 L/100 km. The model is served by a variant of the aforementioned 4-cylinder engine and its maximum power is 181 horsepower.
Frankly, it's difficult, if not impossible, to find a better engine in this class.
Made for the city
The UX is just under 4.5 meters (4,495 mm) long. That's less than a Toyota Corolla! As a result, when you're cruising around town or in heavy traffic, you don't feel like you're behind the wheel of a behemoth that's hard to maneuver when space is limited. Instead, you can squeeze in anywhere with this little SUV. And what about the child's play of finding a parking spot? Just incredible!
And add to that an imponderable element, the agility and sportiness of this model's driving. What this means is that in addition to being behind the wheel of a compact product, you get the added benefit of a responsive SUV. And of course, Lexus comfort is there for the taking.
And, finally, the same can be said for safety. Every UX comes with the Lexus+ 2.0 suite, which is the second generation of active technologies developed by the company. These technologies are designed to stimulate driver alertness and support decision-making behind the wheel. These include adaptive cruise control, forward collision warning, and lane keeping assist.
