2020 Lexus UX vs. 2020 Mercedes-Benz GLB
June 16 2020, Lexus Laval
The Lexus UX came on the scene in 2019 as an SUV that offers luxury in a compact form. It continues to improve in 2020 with some of the best efficiency and value in the segment. Two amenity-filled trims are part of the lineup, including the gas-powered UX 200 and the UX 200h hybrid. With the outpouring of new compact luxury SUVs in the marketplace, it is important we compare the UX to the competition. Here, we place it head-to-head with the Mercedes-Benz GLB.
The 2020 Lexus UX is more accessible
The starting MSRP for the UX 200 is a surprising $37,450, which is far below the GLB’s starting MSRP of $43,990. When comparing standard equipment, you’ll find that the UX brings impressive value to the table. The UX 200h, with its advanced hybrid system, is also priced lower than the GLB at $40,000. It doesn’t take much to understand that the UX pulls far ahead in value.
The 2020 Lexus UX’s strength is efficiency
The UX 200 features a 2.0 L four-cylinder engine that produces 169 horsepower and 151 lb-ft of torque. A Continuously Variable Transmission (CVT) pairs with it to enhance smooth shifting and efficiency. The 200 achieves a fuel efficiency rating of 8.0/6.3 L/100 km (city/highway). The UX 250h AWD reduces consumption to 5.7/6.2 L/100 km while increasing horsepower to 181. The 250h also pairs with a CVT.
The GLB includes a single engine offering—a 2.0 L turbocharged four-cylinder that produces 221 horsepower. Although it creates more horsepower than the UX, the entire vehicle is up to 205 kg heavier than the UX. This means it requires more power to perform. The GLB achieves a fuel consumption rating of 9.2/6.4 L/100 km (city/highway), which is significantly less efficient than the gas-only UX 200, and it doesn’t even come close to the UX hybrid model. You will spend much more at the pump with the GLB.
The UX is also 120 mm lower than the GLB. Combine that with much lighter weight, the UX has the potential to offer a much more dynamic drive around corners without extra bulkiness.
The Lexus UX may be outfitted with a variety of F Sport packages that bring a customized look and sportier seats, and various technological elements and enhancements not found in the GLB.
