2021 Lexus NX vs. 2021 Audi Q5: Compact Luxury Without the Full-Size Price
November 18 2020, Lexus Laval
The NX is a compact luxury crossover that features a modern style, efficient performance, and advanced amenities that make this vehicle popular among its segment. Two models make up the lineup, including the NX 300 and NX 300h, offering gas and hybrid powertrains that provide more choices. Other manufacturers continue to offer competing models, but the NX differentiates itself. Here, we compare it to the 2021 Audi Q5.
The 2021 Lexus NX stays behind in price and pulls ahead in efficiency
The NX has the lowest starting MSRP of either vehicle at $44,350, which is the NX 300. The hybrid NX 300h starts at $46,850, which is practically the same MSRP of the Q5's base model, the Komfort. Q5 models continue up the MSRP price range to $56,900, which is quite different territory from the NX's range.
The AWD NX 300 features a turbocharged 2.0-litre four-cylinder that generates 235 horsepower and 258 lb-ft of torque. The NX300H (hybrid) is the most efficient vehicle in our comparison with a fuel economy rating of 7.2/7.9 L/100 km (city/highway). It pairs with an Electronically Controlled Continuously Variable Transmission for optimized performance and efficient operation.
The Audi has a PHEV version of the Q5 available called the TFSI e. This model series has a starting MSRP of $70,400, nearly $25,000 more than the Lexus NX 300h. At that rate, any operational cost savings with the Q5 evaporates. Moreover, the highest grade of the Q5 TFSI e starts at $73,100.
The Q5 also has a turbocharged 2.0-litre four-cylinder that does output a little more horsepower than the NX 300, but you'll pay significantly more, especially if you want additional amenities and model upgrades, which can become notoriously costly with Audi.
The interior of the Lexus NX has comfort and safety
Both NX models feature more front legroom than the Q5, enabling you to stretch out more each trip. The NX series also includes plenty of other standard safety features. These include: heated front seats; Apple CarPlay/Android Auto; and Lexus Safety System + 2.0 with Lane Departure Alert with Steering Assist and Road Edge Detection, Full-Speed Range Dynamic Radar Cruise Control, and Pre-Collision System with Pedestrian Detection and Bicycle Detection.
