A look at the new 2020 Lexus LC Coupes
July 29 2019, Lexus Laval
“Amazing” only begins to describe the experience of owning and driving the Lexus LC series – a signature coupe that inspires at the curb and engages all the senses on the road.
“From first impressions on out, the Lexus LC is designed and engineered to deliver amazing experiences for our Canadian guests,” said Robert Tsang, Director of Lexus in Canada. “True to the spirit of the Lexus LF-LC Concept that inspired it, the LC delivers a breathtaking blend of raw power, razor-sharp performance, evoking passion in the driver along with impressive comfort and confidence.”
Lexus designers and engineers worked closely throughout the LC’s development to ensure every component works in harmony, to take full advantage of the LC’s inspired performance capabilities. From the rear wheel drive platform to the wind-cheating chassis and low profile tires, every detail serves to ensure that every drive is nothing short of amazing.
Under the hood, guests will discover a choice of two powertrains:
The Lexus LC 500 features a 471 horsepower 5.0L direct-injection naturally-aspirated V8 coupled to a 10-speed direct shift automatic transmission with shift-by-wire gear lever and AI-SHIFT control with driver mind index.
The self-charging LC 500h hybrid electric is built around a Lexus multi-stage hybrid system that generates 354 net horsepower. This features a powerful yet efficient Atkinson cycle 3.5L V6 linked to a multistage transmission with 10-speed AT simulated shift control.
While built for performance, the LC series also captures all the beauty of a prestige coupe. With a long wheelbase, compact front and rear overhangs, and a notably low hood, the LC presents an athletic profile. This is set off by a sweeping roofline, sensual curves, and aerodynamic silhouette. Wheel arch vents enhance aerodynamics and cooling performance – and include aerofins up front, inspired by Formula 1 technology.
The LC’s unique lighting package makes an impression coming or going, including LED headlamps, daytime running lights and cornering lamps, plus multi-layered LED tail lamps that light sequentially to create a signature three-dimensional L motif.
Inside, the LC’s cabin is designed to maximize driving pleasure and luxurious comfort. The cockpit is an invitation to high-spirited driving, while passengers relax in an environment that combines elegance and sophistication – including hand-stitched upholstery. Throughout the cabin, many examples can be found of the master craftsmanship for which Lexus is globally renowned.
The impressively equipped LC series is a technology showcase, too. Powerful yet easy-to-use systems deliver thoughtful connectivity and peace of mind, highlighted by the Lexus Enform multimedia package featuring Enform Safety Connect, Enform Destination Assist, and Apple CarPlay compatibility. The LC’s 10.3” Display Audio package features a 13-speaker Mark Levinson Premium Surround Sound System with integrated Sirius XM Satellite Radio, Bluetooth® connectivity, and more. Other onboard technology includes a multi-information display, head up display, the Lexus Smart Key System with Push Button Start and Intuitive Parking Assist. New for 2020, all models now come standard equipped with a Wallet Sized Smart Card Key, making it even easier to get in and enjoy the drive.
Additional standard features include dual zone automatic climate control with the Lexus climate concierge system, heated and ventilated power adjustable front seats, driver and front passenger memory systems, the signature Lexus analogue clock, heated steering wheel with adjustable temperature control, magnesium alloy paddle shifters, steering wheel-mounted controls for the audio and voice recognition systems, and more.
As a Lexus, the 2020 LC series also offers drivers and passengers peace of mind through a comprehensive safety package – starting with Lexus Safety System+. This bundle of active safety technologies is now standard across the lineup of 2020 models Lexus offers in Canada, representing the latest advancements and innovations in safety – designed to help prevent crashes and protect people.
Additional ground-breaking Lexus safety innovations include crash testing ingenuity and real-world safety. LSS+ supports the driver’s awareness and decision-making under a variety of traffic conditions and contingencies. Other standard safety features include the blind spot monitor and rear cross traffic alert safety systems, a backup camera, eight airbags, a direct tire pressure monitoring system, anti-theft system and more. There’s even an onboard first-aid kit.
The Lexus LC Series is offered in a range of models and trim levels, as follows:
The 2020 Lexus LC 500 (starting MSRP: $103,050) features semi-Aniline leather seating, glass roof with retractable sunshade and 20” forged alloy wheels. This model may be enhanced with a Performance Package that adds a Torsen limited slip differential, four-wheel steering, variable gear ratio steering, 21” forged wheels, a retractable rear spoiler, front sport seats, an eight-way power adjustable driver’s seat, Alcantara & Leather seating, a carbon fibre roof, carbon fibre reinforced polymer scuff plates, and an Alcantara headliner.

In addition, fans of Lexus’s LC will get a taste of the open air in the near future, as Lexus confirms production of a convertible version of its flagship LC coupe. The future convertible sports coupe will broaden Lexus’ luxury lifestyle offerings, broadening the LC line-up and giving a sense of a completeness to the brand’s flagship models.
The LC has quickly become established as one of the most sought-after and internationally acclaimed models Lexus has ever created, thanks to its combination of striking design, fine craftsmanship and exhilarating performance. The potential evolution of the range to include a convertible was signposted at the North American International Auto Show in January, where Lexus revealed the LC Convertible Concept. The concept’s design goal was to express ‘Ultimate Beauty’, and it provoked an enthusiastic response from both industry experts and the public.
Long, low and lean, the LC convertible will share the coupe’s athletic proportions, but project its own, distinct identity. Its large wheels and short overhangs will signal its performance pedigree and rewarding driving experience. Detailed specifications and timing for the LC convertible’s market introduction will be announced at a later date.
