Lexus AR Play: An App Straight Out of the Future
August 28 2020, Lexus Laval
To virtually launch its new 2021 IS sedan, Lexus had to rely on technology. Indeed, because of COVID-19, nothing could be done as before. For example, Toyota's luxury division launched Lexus AR Play, an augmented reality application that allows consumers to discover a vehicle using their smartphone or tablet.
Because it's currently impossible to get together, Lexus wanted to develop a technology that would allow the unveiling of a vehicle in an original way, but as complete as possible in comparison with reality. This way, those interested in the model can discover its new design from all angles, as well as its performance characteristics.
The AR Play Lexus application allows customers to discover the car as if they were at its side. Thus, it is possible to virtually move around the vehicle in order to examine all the seams of its design, as well as the presentation of its interior. In a fun way, it is also possible to change the appearance of the IS by using one of the eight available colours. You can even open and close the doors.
On a more technical level, a high-definition video allows us to explore the vehicle's design and discover the technical details of the model, as well as take a tour of its safety features. The engine and chassis can also be virtually scrutinized.
You can even get behind the wheel... virtually, of course, thanks to augmented reality.
Finally, photos can be shared on social networks or with your friends and family.
The Lexus AR Play application can be downloaded and works with Apple and Android devices.
