The Lexus Safety System+ Suite Explained
February 24 2020, Lexus Laval
While safety is becoming more and more important among car shoppers’ purchase criteria, Lexus introduced a suite of advanced safety features, now standard in all of its models. What exactly does this suite include?
First of all, Lexus Safety System+ (LSS+) features Automatic High Beams, which activate by themselves at night to improve our visibility of the road ahead.
The suite also includes Lane Departure Alert, while light steering assist helps maintain the vehicle in its lane in case of driver distraction. In the second generation of the suite, or LSS+ 2.0, Lane Tracing Assist has been added, incorporating improved lane marking detection and lane centering capabilities. Some Lexus models also feature Active Steering Assist, which automatically steers the vehicle around obstacles that can’t be avoided by simply braking.
The Dynamic Radar Cruise Control system helps automatically maintain a safe and comfortable distance between our vehicle and the preceding one, at speeds between 40 km/h and 180 km/h. With LSS+ 2.0, the system can also bring the vehicle to a complete stop and resume set speed by itself, which is very practical in traffic jams.
Last but not least, the Pre-collision System With Pedestrian Detection emits an audible alert when the risk of a frontal impact is detected, and applies the brakes automatically if the driver doesn’t react. The LSS+ 2.0 suite also detects pedestrians in low-light situations in addition to cyclists in daytime situations.
