2022 Lexus RX vs. 2022 Infiniti QX60: still the benchmark
September 24 2021,
One of the major players in the mid-size luxury SUV segment, the Infiniti QX60, is getting a makeover for 2022. This should, in principle, worry a vehicle like the Lexus RX, as the latter was last redesigned in 2016.
But that would be to misunderstand the qualities of the Lexus family's best seller. The RX is an industry veteran and has been serving consumers for more than 20 years; it knows how to seduce them. The current generation is unimpeachable in this regard.
That's why the "old" Lexus RX still has the tools to take on a "young" one like the Infiniti QX60.
A more complete family
The QX60 is served in a more linear fashion. A single powertrain (3.5-liter V6), accompanied by different trim levels. Lexus offers two RXs: the regular version and the extended version, not to mention the equipment and option packages. The latter, like Infiniti's rival, offers a seven-seat interior configuration (RX L).
Then, there are two powertrain approaches at Lexus. First, a 3.5-liter V6, but more importantly, a hybrid version of this powertrain. The latter is more powerful than Infiniti's (308 hp vs. 295 hp), but also more economical, whether in the city or on the highway.
Resale value
And speaking of value, depreciation is lower with the RX. Over three years, we're talking about 26.5 percent, while the QX60's depreciation is 30.6 percent. People will say that if you can afford a luxury vehicle, the residual value is less important, but that's not true. At the end of the day, it's your hard-earned money and it's dollars in your pocket over the long term.
Reliability
In general, Infiniti products are relatively reliable, but how can a vehicle compete with a Lexus product in this regard? In the case of the RX, you know exactly what to expect, as the model has always been a benchmark in terms of reliability.
What's more, the new-generation QX60 will be in its first year on the market, and you know how much more risky it is to opt for a model that might have a few minor design flaws in its first few months of production.
For all these reasons, and because you know how solid the Lexus RX is, there's no doubt that it's the best choice in the segment in 2022.
