Lexus Safety System+: At Your Service Every Day
May 17 2021,
The vehicles sold to you today all have safety packages that include a variety of safety features. At Lexus, depending on the model you're interested in, you'll find a range of features designed to give you maximum protection on the road.
You know the safety features that Lexus offers. They're called (in the case of the LSS+ 2.0 suite) Pre-Collision System with Pedestrian Detection and Automatic Emergency Braking, Dynamic Radar Cruise Control, Lane Departure Warning with Steering Assist, and Lane Keeping Assist, among others.
These systems are there to help us. On a day-to-day basis, we don't always think about them, but in reality, they come into play when we forget or can't. It can sometimes serve as a reminder, but it can also prevent us from suffering a collision or an impact that could have serious consequences.
The following examples prove this.
The Collision Warning System
Distracted driving is not always the fault of other drivers. We're all human and we can all experience a moment of distraction in heavy traffic. That's where collision warning can really save our asses.
If you're driving down a road and the cameras in the front of the vehicle think you're in a situation where a collision is possible, the system will intervene. At first, it will warn us with visual and sound signals. If we intervene to apply the brakes, the brake assist system will increase the power so that we can stop in time. And if you don't react, it will apply the brakes for you to avoid the collision or reduce the impact force.
Lane departure warning
Lane departure warning systems can also be a great ally. Using cameras, the vehicle monitors whether you're driving within your lane lines. If you deviate without activating the turn signal, an alert is sent, first in the form of vibration in the steering wheel, then in the form of signals (sound and visual). If nothing is done, light pressure is applied on the steering wheel to bring you back to the center of your lane.
You might think that this kind of alert is superfluous, but it is only a moment on the road when you are blinded by the sun, for example, to lose the center of your lane. The system is then there to assist us, quite simply.
These devices should not be seen as crutches, but as partners that can assist us when we least expect it. And one intervention is enough to justify the presence and relevance of these systems.
